Cruising Links |
One aspect of Sailing is racing, however this is not everyone's cup of tea. Many enjoy a more leisurely form of Sailing - exploring remote areas of your home waters, visiting other clubs or just going out onto the water to sail around. This is what the Cruising fraternity enjoy. Now this can be done by one's self or it can be done with others - something like flotilla cruises. To this end, many clubs have a programme of such cruises. This web page lists these clubs, with links to their itineries. |

Feedback
on the 3-day River-Cruise held in December 2005. Thanks a mil to Bruce Richards for leading the cruise while I repaired the rudder on my yacht. The cruise got as far as the first weir on the Vaal River but unfortunately the water was too low to get through. Quite a bit of excitement was had as yachts bumped the bottom and got stuck while manoeuvring to anchor for the night. Unfortunately the evening braai on the shore was disrupted by windy weather. WIND … never there when you want it and too much when you don’t (at risk of sound like a farmer complaining about the rain J) . While working madly on my rudder (done while bobbing around on the mooring) I had the opportunity to redirect 2 gentlemen from Mantens in the direction of the departing fleet, promising to bring some beverages to them as soon as the rudder was repaired. Unfortunately this took a lot longer than expected and I ended up sleeping over on the mooring and only chasing the fleet in the morning - please accept my apologies for a dry evening – but maybe just as well as it turns out that they dragged their anchor during the storm that evening and ended up uncomfortably aground. I met up with the fleet on their way back to PNYC where they intended to regroup. At PNYC Bruce and a few others bravely decided to set out for Oranjeville while a couple of yachts, me included, decided to settle in at PNYC for the evening. Another bumpy evening followed and in the morning I was surprised to see Bruce’s H34, Moonpath on its mooring. |

VIVACITY There
are many Vivacities scattered about at various locations on Vaal
Dam. It is a boat well
suited for cruising. Johan Evert owns one of these (Katryn) and as info
on this venerable class is scarce, has set-up a website for the benefit
of all Vivacity owners, as well as anyone else who wants information on the
subject. |
